Airman distinguishes himself in Air Force Leadership School
Thursday, July 7, 2005 | 9:54 a.m.
The son of a Las Vegas woman has distinguished himself academically as a graduate of the Airman Leadership School at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo.
Senior Airman Larry Doughty, son of Valerie Moore of Las Vegas and a missile maintenance technician, was a distinguished graduate of his class and also received the academic award.
Doughty excelled in the five-week course that trains senior airmen to understand their positions in the Air Force organizational structure and is designed to prepare senior airmen to serve as supervisors, managers, leaders and rating officials as they progress in their enlisted military careers.
The school is the first of three levels of professional military education programs used to develop and cultivate leadership and supervisory skills, and is a required course for airmen to complete prior to being promoted to the rank of staff sergeant.
Army family reunion
An Army family recently shared a Las Vegas reunion with Grandma and Grandpa as father and son moved to new Army assignments. Army National Guard 2nd Lt. Nicholas Christian, grandson of Bob and Barbara Nickerson of Las Vegas, recently graduated from the Army Transportation Officer Basic course at Ft. Eustis, Va., following his December 2004 graduation from Auburn University.
The new lieutenant, who grew up as an "Army brat," will now make his home and pursue a career in Las Vegas near his grandparents and serve with the Nevada Army National Guard as a transportation officer.
His parents, Army Lt. Col. Stephen Christian and the former Laura Nickerson, are graduates of Clark High School class of 1975 and Rancho High School class of 1977, respectively.
The Nickersons enjoyed having daughter, son-in-law and grandson at home for a brief visit along with quite a houseful of others as other family members gathered for the reunion.
Lt. Col. Christian, according to his father-in-law, has since reported for new duties in Washington, D.C., as a legislative liaison officer for the Army.
