Services set for Navy SEAL killed in Afghanistan

SUN STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS

Services for Naval Petty Officer 2nd Class Eric Shane Patton will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, according to the Naval Special Warfare office in San Diego.

Patton, a 2000 graduate of Boulder City High, was one of 16 U.S. servicemen killed when their helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan last Tuesday.

Visitation for the Navy SEAL will be 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Palm Mortuary Henderson at 800 So. Boulder Highway.

Patton was the son of City of Las Vegas Marshal James "J.J." Patton, who also was a Navy SEAL.

Patton's body had not yet arrived in Southern Nevada as of this morning, said Russ Wiley, a mortuary official at Palm Henderson.

Wiley said he was to meet with military officials today to go over the funeral arrangements. Wiley said he believed the body would arrive sometime today.

Patton had been assigned to the Seal Delivery Vehicle Team One stationed at Pearl Harbor Hawaii.

The helicopter carrying him and the others had gone into the mountains to rescue a team of soldiers that wound up missing.

The Defense Department said an unguided rocket-propelled grenade hit the chopper.
