Letter: Who created the designer?
Tuesday, July 5, 2005 | 9:06 a.m.
Intelligent Design, the theory that life could have only happened through intelligent input, not through some natural occurrences in nature, is being championed as a form of science. The supporters of this theory want it taught in science class as an alternative to the theory of evolution. Some states are considering just that.
Intelligent Design itself raises a much lager question. If nothing happens as a natural occurrence in nature, who designed the designer?
This question is a perfect example of infinity, something going on forever. Why? Once you acknowledge a designer, you create another designer.
This is nothing more than a ploy by the Evangelical/Religious-Right movement to introduce the biblical theory of Creation as a science. The concept, however, is self defeating in the fact it needs the very thing it is attempting to repudiate, a natural occurrence in nature, in order to explain the existence of what they believe to be the designer.
There's nothing wrong with Intelligent Design being taught -- it just doesn't belong in a science class.
