Letter: Editorial example of liberal bias

Saturday, July 2, 2005 | 12:09 p.m.

WEEKEND EDITION

July 2-3, 2005

In his column the other day, Review-Journal Editor Tom Mitchell opined that the Las Vegas Sun would be more left than the R-J, and based on the Sun's June 26 editorial, Tom gets a point in that regard.

(I'm going to keep score for awhile but really, as I told him, you both are far from fair concerning the news. For example, it was a week before either of you covered the ridiculous and traitorous utterings of Sen. Dick Durbin, at night, on the Senate floor -- with probably just his own staffers there to listen! But obviously not that long when Karl Rove spoke the truth in the daylight!)

The editorial and the cartoon in the Sun were based on a phrase that wasn't said, i.e., Karl Rove did not say the word "Democrats" in his description of the way "liberals" viewed our struggle with the terrorists after 9/11. Check the text -- he was specifically talking about MoveOn.org!

Now, if you Dems are finally ready to identify yourselves as to who you really are, e.g., liberals, FDR Democrats, JFK Democrats, moderates, progressives, etc., then fine. But up to Karl Rove's utterance of the word liberals, most Democrats have shunned the descriptive word liberal like the plague! There must be a great story behind why the most liberal of Democrats, like Hillary Rodham Clinton and Charles Schumer, stepped up to deny what Karl Rove said -- as if they were correctly identified as Liberals -- a term they have always denied.

But no, the ole Sun jumps in, incorrectly reports on the speech and then takes issue with their own misreporting. I love it. It's either that, gals and guys, or you're admitting you are liberals and have a liberal newspaper -- which would be refreshing to say the least!
