Brown files for re-election to Las Vegas City Council

Monday, Jan. 31, 2005 | 9:13 a.m.

Las Vegas Councilman Larry Brown filed to run for re-election in Ward 4 on Friday, and another candidate jumped into the crowded Ward 6 race.

Brown is seeking a third term on the council, and so far has no challenger.

The Ward 6 race, however, now has seven candidates with the filing of Anthony M. "Tony" Salas. The Ward 6 seat is currently held by Councilman Michael Mack, who has said he will not seek re-election so he can spend more time with his children.

The other candidates in that race are Robert D. Glover, Steve Ross, city Planning Commissioner Byron Goynes, Debbie Kitterman Burgos, Jeff Crisman and Steve Sanson.

The candidate-filing period ends Friday for the spring elections in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson and Boulder City. At stake are some seats on the city councils, Municipal Court benches and the mayors' offices in North Las Vegas and Henderson.

The cities' primary elections will be on April 5, with early voting from March 19 to April 1. The general elections will be June 7, with early voting from May 21 to June 3.

In all the cities, if a candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote in a primary election they are declared the winner.
