FAA says planned condo tower not a hazard

Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005 | 10:52 a.m.

The Federal Aviation Administration determined that Summit, the 73-story, 900-foot tower at Sahara Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard, on the site of the former Holy Cow! casino, would not constitute a hazard to airspace, said Donn Walker, Los Angeles-based FAA spokesman.

"We looked at the plan for the Summit and we determined it will not have any greater effect on the airspace than the Stratosphere does," Walker said. "The effect is zero."

That is because the Stratosphere is just north of the proposed condominium tower, he said. Walker said the FAA does not approve or disapprove projects, it can only determine whether or not it is a hazard.

The condo tower, proposed by Australians Victor Altomare and Joseph Di Mauro, was approved by the city of Las Vegas in October.
