Commission hires lawyers

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- As it hired its very first employees, the state Gaming Control Board on Tuesday adopted a policy that lets its seven members spend up to $650 a month to lease and insure vehicles.
In other business at their second meeting, board members continued the grinding process of setting up their new state agency -- a task that Tuesday included a prolonged discussion about how to comply with the state's open-meeting law.
"We're starting to get up and running, and we're getting more knowledgeable every day," said Thomas A. "Tad" Decker, the board's chairman. Still, he said, "it's more time-consuming than I thought it would be."
Commissioners still do not know how big their agency or its budget will be, although on Tuesday they hired the agency's first two employees -- both lawyers.
