Belmont dog track suffers more fallout from indictments

Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005 | 9:18 a.m.

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- The indictment of two executives of the Belmont dog track has led another provider of simulcast racing there to pull the plug.

The Lakes Region Greyhound Park was one of 10 off-track sites disconnected in the past two days by the New York Racing Association, The Union Leader reported Wednesday.

The track's owner called a similar cutoff by Churchill Downs Inc. last week unfair because the track itself is not implicated in an alleged illegal gambling and money laundering conspiracy.

The latest cutoff, effective Jan. 31, means customers at Lakes Region will no longer be able to watch live telecasts of races at the Aqueduct thoroughbred track in New York. The association also runs Belmont Park in New York City, which opens in May, and Saratoga in upstate New York, which opens in July.
