Limited rail service restored

Monday, Jan. 24, 2005 | 10:36 a.m.

Union Pacific Corp. announced this morning that, as expected, it has reopened limited rail service between Salt Lake City, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

The rail operator said that the line, which was damaged by flooding two weeks ago, will be limited to about 15 trains per day. At full service, the line serves about 25 trains a day. Union Pacific said the partial service status will remain for about a week.

A company official said the limited service will allow construction crews to move equipment being used to restore the access roads in a narrow canyon south of Caliente where the lines were undercut by floodwaters.
