Company to submit casino proposal for Singapore
Monday, Jan. 24, 2005 | 9:13 a.m.
Las Vegas Sands Corp. intends to submit a formal proposal to the government of Singapore to develop a casino in the city-state, the company's president said Friday.
The company had previously expressed interest in Singapore, which is inviting several companies to submit informal concepts for projects.
Companies have until the end of February to submit those concepts, after which the government will invite the developers behind the most appealing concepts to submit formal proposals for casinos.
The government has not yet decided whether to legalize casinos and is considering allowing one and potentially additional casinos in two regions of Singapore.
"The Sands Macao has enabled us to build a strong brand name in Asia and we are uniquely positioned to work with the people of Singapore to build a world-class entertainment facility," Las Vegas Sands President Bill Weidner said in a statement.
