Letter: Don’t forget it’s taxpayers’ money

WEEKEND EDITION
January 22 - 23, 2005
Gov. Kenny Guinn has $300 million of our money that he wants to give back to us because we overpaid the state.
Some say he should keep it for all the usual hot-button reasons -- schools, etc.
If you go to a gas station and pay $10 but your tank holds only $8 worth of gas, you overpaid by $2. But are you going to leave the $2 there and tell them to give it to a teacher? No. Will the gas station go out of business because you took back your $2? Of course not.
Well, we've overpaid the government.
Take the refund. Send it to a teacher if you wish. It's your money.
