Mark Brandenburg, owner and operator of the Golden Gate, attended a ceremony marking the casino's 99th anniversary at the Fremont Street Experience on Thursday. Saloon girls Brandi Williams and Lizzy Glaser stood by a photo of hotel founder John F. Miller taken in 1906. Miller's great-grandsons J.R. Reynolds, left, and Daniel Schmidt sit in the wagon behind. The casino, which opened Jan. 13, 1906, on One Fremont Street, was originally named Hotel Nevada. The 1906 photo shows Miller in a horse-drawn buggy, posing in front of the hotel.
