City planners approve hospice for Henderson

Friday, Jan. 14, 2005 | 9:04 a.m.

A Henderson branch of the Nathan Adelson Hospice was unanimously approved by the city's planning commission Thursday.

The hospice is to be 35,700 square feet with 16 beds and is to include a 7,000-square-foot adult day center on 11 acres near the end of Nevada State Drive in the Mission Hills area.

Judith Hantin, vice president of the nonprofit hospice foundation, said the building hopefully will be constructed by the end of 2006. She said it is expected to cost $6 million, $2.5 million of which has already been awarded, with the city committing land and money.

"We have two other facilities, but this is going to be by far the nicest and most advanced," Hantin said. "It's going to be a beautiful facility."

She said that the area has a real need for a hospice and that citizens first approached the city and foundation with the idea. The item next goes before the city council.

The foundation is accepting donations designated for the Henderson facility at 769-3133.
