Team to assess flood, avalanche damage

A state assessment team will arrive Tuesday to survey damages from flooding in Overton and Mesquite and avalanches in the Spring Mountains, a Clark County official said.

The assessment team will stay in Southern Nevada throughout next week, Jim O'Brien, Clark County Emergency Management manager, said Wednesday night.

"They will look at damages to private homes and businesses," O'Brien said.

Clark County Manager Thom Reilly declared an emergency in the county Tuesday because of the flooding in the northeastern area and avalanche dangers in the Spring Mountains. The declaration made more equipment and personnel available to protect residents.

Once damages are assessed, the state team can request that the federal Small Business Administration open a field office for assisting home and business owners.
