Station Casinos Inc. has been named one of Fortune magazine's 100 best companies to work for in 2005. Station said it is the first Nevada-based company as well as the first gaming company to appear on the list.
Station Casinos said the company ranked 54th overall, ahead of Procter & Gamble, Nordstrom and FedEx. The company ranked 12th among the 37 largest companies with employees of 10,000 or more.
"We've been able to attract some of the very best in the hospitality industry by treating each of our team members with respect, promoting a work-life balance and providing them with opportunities to achieve their full potential," Station Casinos Chairman and Chief Executive Frank Fertitta III said in a statement.
Fortune cited Station Casinos for being the first Las Vegas company to offer full-service on-site dentistry for employees in addition to 24-hour child care. The company also was recognized for its diverse workforce and philanthropic efforts among employees.
Fortune compiled the list based on the policies and culture of each company and the opinions of company employees who are randomly surveyed, with the workers' opinions given more weight.
