NLV names temp judge

A former administrator with the Clark County Juvenile Court Services will begin working as North Las Vegas' second Municipal Court judge Jan. 17, the city announced Tuesday.

Mark Larson was appointed temporary judge of the recently created second Municipal Court by the City Council last week.

The second court was created by the council on Dec. 1 to meet the growing needs and increased activity in the North Las Vegas Municipal Court, a city statement said.

Larson will serve until a permanent judge is elected in the spring city elections. The primary election is April 5, and the general election is June 7. Municipal judges are paid $128,000 a year.

Larson, a UNLV graduate, has spent over 27 years with the Clark County Juvenile Court Services where his titles ranged from probation officer to administrator, the statement said.

The city's new $29 million Justice Facility, which includes new courtrooms, is expected to open in the spring.
