Man charged with sexual assault, giving drugs to 12-year-old

A man gave Ecstasy and alcohol to a 12-year-old girl he had met at a bus stop and then sexually assaulted her, Metro Police allege.

William J. Reeves, 24, was arrested Jan. 6 on two counts of sexual assault of a minor under 14 and furnishing dangerous drugs to a minor, according to court records.

According to the arrest report, Reeves was pumping gasoline at a Circle K gas station in August when he spotted the victim across the street at a bus stop.

She told Reeves she was 15, but she was actually 12. Reeves suspected she was lying about her age, but they exchanged phone numbers anyway and he called her a few weeks later, police said.

He picked her up at her house and gave her Ecstasy on the way to his home, police allege. When they got to his home he allegedly served her alcohol and sexually abused her, police said.

"The perpetrator admitted he did not believe the victim was (15 years old) but younger, and that he had poor judgment," the police report says.

The girl spent the night at his home, and her concerned mother called Metro and reported her as a runaway, according to the police report.

The alleged victim went home the next day. That afternoon Reeves called the victim's house and asked her mother if her daughter was home.

The mother "confronted the perpetrator with the victim being only 12 years old, and what was he doing with a young girl," the police report says.

A few weeks later Reeves called again, telling the victim's mother that he wanted to get some Lortab pills from her daughter. The victim's mother had a prescription for Lortab, a painkiller.

The victim's mother told police she thought Reeves had been in contact with her daughter after that, and a call was made Nov. 23 to the Child Protective Services' child abuse hotline reporting the alleged abuse and police began investigating.

Police arrested him at 24 Hour Fitness on South Maryland Parkway near Silverado Ranch Boulevard.

Reeves, who was a football standout at Clark High School, was in court Jan. 7 regarding the charges, and his next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 7, a court spokesman said.

A Clark County School District spokeswoman confirmed that Reeves played football for Clark High from 1996 to 1998. He was named by the Las Vegas Sun in 1997 as one of the "Five to Watch" at Clark and was the top rusher that year.
