Former commissioner may be tapped for board

Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005 | 11:12 a.m.

Several sources close to the state Public Utilities Commission said they have been told that former commissioner Jo Ann Kelly will be reappointed this week by Gov. Kenny Guinn.

Kelly would replace departed commissioner Adriana Escobar-Chanos, who was named consumer advocate by Attorney General Brian Sandoval.

Greg Bortolin, a spokesman for Guinn, said no announcement had been made and that no appointment would be official "until we announce it."

He did indicate that an appointment -- while not specifying who would be appointed -- could be made this week.

Kelly, an accountant, served on the Public Service Commission, which was later renamed the Public Utilities Commission, between 1985 and 1996. She also served on a temporary basis between January and November 2000 in cases in which a fellow commissioner disqualified himself because of professional conflicts.
