Bicyclist dies in collision
Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005 | 9:42 a.m.
A bicyclist was killed this morning when he apparently veered in front of a shuttle van and became lodged under it on Industrial Road near Sahara Avenue, Metro Police said.
Sgt. Tracy McDonald said the bicyclist was pedaling south on Industrial at Northbridge Street about 6:30 a.m. and the shuttle was heading in the same direction when the bicyclist swerved to avoid a drainage gate.
The van hit the man on the bike, and the impact caused him to go under the vehicle, killing him instantly, McDonald said.
The bicyclist had reflective gear, but it's not clear if he was wearing a helmet. Police do not suspect that drugs, alcohol or an unsafe speed was involved.
"It was just an unfortune set of circumstances," McDonald said. Authorities did not release the names of the shuttle driver and the bicyclist this morning.
