Parents, students to get opportunity to discuss proposed zoning changes

The Clark County School District will hold the first of a series of community meetings Tuesday to gather parent and student input on proposed zoning boundaries for new and existing campuses.

The first public input meeting, to discuss schools in the district's southwest region, will be held at 6 p.m. in the theater of Spring Valley High School, 3750 S. Buffalo Drive.

Elementary schools expected to be afftected by the zoning changes are: Alamo, Batterman (new), Beatty, R.M. Bryan, Christensen, Dondero, M. Earl, Frias, Goolsby, Hill, Hummel, Jydstrup, Lamping, Ober, Piggott, Ries (new), Rogers, Sandy Valley, Tanaka, G. Taylor, Thiriot (new), Wiener and Elise Wolff.

Bob Miller, Sandy Valley, Silvestri and White middle schools, along with the new Del Webb Middle School, may be affected.

The southeast region will hold its public input meeting Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the theater of Silverado High School, 1650 Silver Hawk Ave. One new middle school will open in the southeast region in August.

Elementary schools with attendance zone boundaries potentially affected by the changes are: Alamo, Beatty, Cunningham, Dondero, M. Earl, Ferron, Frias, Goldfarb, Harmon, Hill, Hummel, Iverson, Jydstrup, Lamping, Ries (new), Sandy Valley, G. Taylor, Thiriot (new), Thorpe, Treem, Ullom, Whitney, Wiener and Elise Wolff.

Middle schools that may be affected are: Bailey (new), Cortney, Fremont, Greenspun, Harney, Keller, Knudson, Martin, Bob Miller, Monaco, O'Callaghan, J.D. Mack (new), Robison, Sandy Valley, Silvestri, Von Tobel, Del Webb (new) and White.

The Attendance Zone Advisory Commission collects public input on proposed zoning boundaries changes prior to making recommendations to the Clark County School Board.

"It is important that parents come to one of the regional input meetings to know what changes are being proposed and voice their opinions," said Dusty Dickens, director of the district's demographics, zoning and real property department.

The Clark County School Board will consider attendance zone boundaries at meetings set for Feb. 28 and March 1.
