Letter: Belated tsunami aid is appalling
Monday, Jan. 10, 2005 | 9:05 a.m.
As I watch the tragic, unfolding consequences of the disastrous tsunami, I think of the initial response of $15 million in aid from our government, later increased to $35 million and then $350 million -- but only after a United Nations official criticized our inadequate response.
We are currently approaching expenditures of $200 billion for our war in Iraq, which is stagnant at best.
And estimates show that President Bush's inaugural alone will cost $40 million.
What an embarrassing and shameful display of utter incompetence by our current administration. As an American, I am appalled.
