First Friday
First Friday, the monthly arts festival held in the Las Vegas Arts District, begins at 6 p.m. today. For maps and gallery information, go online to www.whirlygiglasvegas.org.
Film festival
"A Cantor's Tale" will be showcased at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Century Suncoast 16, located inside the Suncoast Hotel & Casino in Summerlin, as part of the 4th annual Las Vegas Celebration of Jewish Film. Tickets are $25. 804-1333.
Watoto Book Club
Young people ages 10-16 are invited to join the Watoto Book Club, held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Admission is free. 229-4800.
Documentary
The Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive, presents the documentary "A Closer Walk," which examines the world AIDS crisis, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The presentation is sponsored by the Nathan Adelson Hospice and is free. The film is not rated. 455-7340.
'Living the Dream'
The West Las Vegas Arts Center celebrates its 10 anniversary with "Living the Dream," an afternoon of entertainment hosted by Keith Brantley and Dr. Rochelle Clark, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Admission is free. 229-4800.
African workshop
Nigerian native Bamidele Adefemi will host an African drum, dance and Yoruba language workshop from noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Registration fee is $10. 229-4800.
Family storytime
The City of Las Vegas presents a free family storytime at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive. 633-1070.
Tai chi classes
Free tai chi classes will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesdays at the District at Green Valley Ranch. 458-8855.
