Letter: No moral values in Bush’s policies
Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005 | 9:14 a.m.
I couldn't agree more with the letter written by Rolf Goeth that you published on Dec. 19. He criticized the Bush administration's stated reasons for going to war in Iraq and rightly described the war as "disastrous" and a "religious quagmire."
I am still dumbstruck regarding the reason President Bush got re-elected -- moral values, indeed.
Is it moral to start a war on misrepresentations, a war that has so far caused the deaths of more than 1,330 of our troops?
Our country has never been in a greater state of depravity than it is now, what with TV and movies depicting lewdness, bad language and violence. Drugs are still rampant.
The American people are put on a back burner when it comes to spending money. The HMOs provide the worst health care in the world, especially for seniors.
People, including children, are still going hungry. Homeless people are abundant in this, the richest country in the world, and many are veterans.
All the while untold billions are being sent to Iraq. And how about Osama bin Laden, who was largely forgotten while we hunted for Saddam? Well, bin Laden has emerged again, threatening more devastation.
Moral values, horsefeathers! Our president is all about power and money and egocentricity.
