Letter: No Liberty, just excuses, in school uniform fight
Monday, Jan. 3, 2005 | 9:13 a.m.
I see that Kim Jacobs, the Liberty High School student who stood up to the school's dress code, has now left the school because of apparent mistreatment by staff, adults who should know better.
Quite frankly, I have found it quite a paradox that administrators of a school named "Liberty" have acted in a fashion that is wholly contrary to what liberty is defined as in the dictionary. Then again, I graduated from a local high school at a time when the issue of uniforms was for the team sports, the cheerleaders and the music department.
Apparently, school administrators want to be able to blame their inability to promote a learning environment on everything but themselves -- whether it be students who have the audacity to wear a T-shirt that promotes one's beliefs, or teachers who want to spend time teaching, not filling out forms in triplicate in order to keep the deans happy.
