Correctional center tours scheduled

The Las Vegas Community Correctional Center at 2901 Industrial Road will be open to the public for tours from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The center provides transitional services in a supervised environment in order to assist offenders in becoming employed and productive citizens in their home communities.

Offenders receive an array of services that help them transition from the highly structured environment of prison or jail to a less structured environment of the community corrections center and finally to their home.

NLV Justice Facility opening on Tuesday

The grand opening of the North Las Vegas Justice Facility will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday at 2333 Las Vegas Blvd. North. A ceremony and ribbon-cutting will be followed by self-guided tours of the two-story 96,000-square-foot facility.

The Justice Facility will house Municipal Court, the detention center's administration and booking offices, and the criminal division of the city attorney's office.

Music workshop planned for kids

Thursday is the registration deadline for Saturday's Rhythm and Music Workshops for children. The workshop for ages 3 to 6 is set for 10:15 a.m.-noon at Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod. A similar program geared toward children ages 6 to nine will be 12:30-2:15 p.m.

Participants will rotate to four stations including an "instrument petting zoo" where musicians will play and kids can touch the instruments and ask questions. Participants will also experience "drums of the world,"making their own instrument, dance and movements. There will be a surprise giveaway. Call 455-7340.

V-Day Las Vegas to host benefit

V-Day Las Vegas will host a benefit production of Eve Ensler's "Vagina Monologues" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.

V-Day is a global movement to try to stop violence against women and girls and promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations.

Workshop on tap for voice-overs

Bob Bergen, the voice of Porky Pig, will present an animation voice-over workshop beginning with registration 8:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Suncoast.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the nonprofit organizations of Media Guilds International, the ADHD Child Advocates Services, and the Children with Learning Disabilities Organization.

The class covers microphone and audition techniques, how to create and sustain your own characters, tips for demo tapes and a primer on the business and agent/client relationship.
