Summerlin Parkway, Rainbow ramps to close for weekend
Friday, Feb. 25, 2005 | 11:14 a.m.
Ramps connecting U.S. 95 to eastbound Summerlin Parkway will stay closed this weekend as Transportation Department workers continue widening the highway.
The southbound U.S. 95 ramp to Rainbow Boulevard and the eastbound Summerlin Parkway ramp will close at 9 p.m. today and will stay closed until 5 a.m. Sunday, department officials said. The closure comes as construction continues on a new bridge structure linking the two roadways.
It is the latest in a series of closures necessitated by the U.S. 95 project. That part of U.S. 95 normally sees between 250,000 and 300,000 cars a day, the agency has said.
Those drivers are urged to take posted detours around neighboring Washington Avenue and Alta Drive.
The bridge structure under construction is expected to be finished sometime this summer.
Meanwhile the rest of the $370 million widening project remains on hold pending the resolution of a Sierra Club lawsuit alleging the Federal Highway Administration and state Transportation Department failed to adequately address health impacts of the widening project.
The completion date for the entire project, initially expected to be finished by late 2006, remains unclear.
