At his weekly news conference Thursday, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman would not rule out a run for governor in 2006.
"I've been told by smart people that you never say no," Goodman said during his regular weekly press conference on Thursday. "I'm not going to say no because there is no reason to say no."
Goodman said there have been people talking to him about running for governor. Also, he said some Las Vegas businessmen, whom he would not identify, have said they could raise $300,000 each for his campaign.
The mayor also said he would not "pick sides" among the potential gubernatorial candidates during the state legislative session because that could hurt the city.
Assembly Speaker Richard Perkins, D-Henderson, who Goodman said was a "great guy," Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus, D-Las Vegas, and Republicans Rep. Jim Gibbons and Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt have all said or indicated they will run for governor in 2006.
Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson, a Democrat, has also been mentioned as a potential candidate for governor.
