The same situation seems to be taking place in the Overton Arm, where boaters are finding they have to spend quite a bit of time on the water to catch just one or two stripers.
Jim Heinrich, Nevada Department of Wildlife biologist, said the striper fishing typically begins to come out of its slow winter period beginning in April. That is a month when some large stripers have been caught on the lake.
Anglers who have been pursuing largemouth bass recently have had poor success. Heinrich said bass should begin moving toward coves in the next few weeks as they prepare to spawn.
A few hearty fishers were on hand for last Friday's rainbow trout plants. They were only able to catch a small number of 10-inch fish. NDOW's next trout plants were scheduled today at Hemenway, Horsepower, North Saddle and Pumphouse coves.
NDOW planned to be stocking rainbow trout today at Cottonwood Cove, Placer Cove and Willow Beach.
The campground and roads are still muddy, and Maes recommends caution when departing the gravel roads in that vehicles are getting stuck.
