'Sounds & Soul'

"A Taste of Sounds and Soul," a soul food celebration, will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday to Sunday on Fremont Street. Admission is free. 388-2226.

Barn dance

The Southern Nevada Old Time Contra Dancers present an "Old Time Barn Dance" from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Charleston Heights Arts Center ballroom, 800 S. Brush St. Admission is $6 adults, $5 members, $3 students and active military, free for children under 15. 229-6383.

Watoto Book Club

Promtennial dance

'Kids Day'

The District at Green Valley Ranch presents "Kids Day" from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Performers will include balloon artists, a juggler, stilt walker and mime. Admission is free. 564-8595.

'All Our Sons'

The United Firefighters of Southern Nevada will co-sponsor a showing of "All Our Sons," a story of the 12 black firefighters who died at the World Trade Center, at 3 p.m. Sunday at the West Las Vegas Library Performing Arts Center, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Admission is free. 303-5705.

'Taste of Excellence'

The Cultural Diversity Foundation will sponsor the 10th annual "Educational Taste of Excellence," a wine tasting, spirits and jazz scholarship benefit, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Palace Station ballroom. Admission is $30 in advance and $35 at the door, and all proceeds go to scholarships. Evening attire is requested, and no one under 21 will be admitted. 646-2615.

Book signing

Sarah Marks, author of the best-selling book "Reservations Required -- Culinary Secrets of Las Vegas' Celebrity Chefs," will team with Chef Claude Gaty of Mon Ami Gabi at Paris Las Vegas for a cooking demonstration/book signing from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Fashion Show mall.
