Regents to honor Nevada citizens

The university Board of Regents has approved nominations for the 2005 Regents' Distinguished Nevada award as well as honorary degree recipients.

The Distinguished Nevadan represents the most prestigious award conferred by the regents. It is bestowed upon prominent individuals who have made significant achievements that have contributed to the cultural, scientific or social advancement of Nevada. The recipients will be honored at commencements in Reno and Las Vegas in May.

The 2005 Distinguished Nevadans are:

Franny Forsman of Las Vegas; Jerry Keller of Las Vegas; Evelyn Mount of Reno and Joseph M. Neal of North Las Vegas.

The Regents also approved these honorary degrees:

Honorary doctorate: Brian Greenspun, UNLV; U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Sandra Day O' Connor, UNR; Colin L. Powell, UNR.

Honorary baccalaureate: Charlotte Daniel, Nevada State College; Marilyn Ray, Nevada State College.

Honorary associate: Gustav Mauler, CCSN; Paul E. Meacham, CCSN; Adam Gonzales, Truckee Meadows Community College; Bruce James, Truckee Meadows; Rick DeMar, Western Nevada Community College; Virgie Miller, Western Nevada.
