Centennial honors Black History Month

The Las Vegas Centennial will hold An Affair to Remember at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Texas Station.

The event celebrates Black History Month through fine art and wares from various communities throughout the world. These will be presented as displays and exhibits so that attendees will have the opportunity to make purchases to enrich, cultivate and educate.

A commemorative poster, created by Simone Fennell, highlighting the event will be available for purchase. Call 212-3549.

Program planned on wild horses

A public outreach program to raise awareness of the plight of wild horses will begin with viewing and interviews at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the West Charleston Library Theater, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd., followed by the program at 5 p.m.

Join Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus, D-Las Vegas, actors Theresa Russell and Tony Curtis and others to hear about the "Slaughter Bill" language that passed Congress last November and other actions leaders and horse groups are taking to protect wild horses.

will speak at the Clark County Nevada Genealogical Society meeting 10 a.m.-noon Saturday in the conference room at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway, Henderson. Meetings are open to the public interested in doing Family History Research. The West Las Vegas Arts Center

presents "Community Roots: The History of West Las Vegas" featuring guest speaker Ray Willis 3-5 p.m. Saturday at the center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. The workshop focuses on black pioneers in West Las Vegas and Nevada history. Admission is $15. Adults only, age 18 and older. Call 229-4800.

The North Las Vegas Library,

2300 Civic Center Drive, will now offer Family Storytime programs in English and Spanish. An upcoming program will begin 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the library. The storytimes are free and no registration is required. Call 633-1070.

Wes Winters and Company

will be hosted by the Performing Arts Society of Nevada's Brown Bag Concerts at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Clark County Theater, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. Winters was the 2003 winner of the annual Liberace Foundation Contest. Tickets are $10. Call 658-6741.

Carole Montello, past president

of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Southern Nevada, will speak on "Vital Records" as part of the organization's back to the basics series at its 1 p.m. meeting Sunday in the multi-purpose room of the Sahara West Library, 9600 W.
