Health District joins AIDS awareness project

The Clark County Health District is joining other Las Vegas community organizations in the fifth annual observance of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness and Information Day, a nationwide mobilization effort to call attention to the disproportionate incidence of HIV/AIDS in the black population.

The Health District Office of AIDS will be conducting confidential HIV testing and distributing HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment information at these Health District locations from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.:

Ravenholt Public Health Center; North Las Vegas Center, 1820 E. Lake Mead Drive, Suite F, North Las Vegas; East Las Vegas Center, 560 N. Nellis Blvd., Suite E12; and the Henderson Center, 129 W. Lake Mead Drive, Henderson.

The Health District will also participate in a rally 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Call 759-0726.

End of Life workshop planned

The Valley Outreach Synagogue, 2524 Silver Beach Drive, will hold a workshop, "End of Life," at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the synagogue.

The workshop will tell individuals how you to take charge of a significant part of their wellbeing and will provide the legal tools needed to make their health care wishes known.

Joining the workshop will be a representative of the Nevada Center for Ethics and Health Policy at UNR.

LV student will attend D.C. meeting

Roslyn Foreman of Las Vegas will join 200 middle school students from throughout the United States at the Junior National Young Leaders Conference Saturday to Feb. 17 in Washington, D.C.

Themed "The Legacy of American Leadership," the conference introduces young people to the rich tradition of leadership throughout American Leadership skills. Foreman will participate in educational activities and presentations led by individuals in high-level positions as well as young people who exercise leadership skills within their communities.

Students will also meet with elected officials and key congressional staff members on Capitol Hill, and will visit historic national landmarks including colonial Williamsburg.

Men's club to hold health care fair

The fourth annual Congregation Ner Tamid Men's Club health fair will be 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at Galleria at Sunset.

The fair will focus on a variety of health issues relating to men, women and children. Free blood pressure, height, weight and body fat content evaluation, along with osteoporosis screenings will be available.

Exhibits will include physician services such as oncology, radiation therapy, neurosurgery, chiropractic and cardiology. Providers of diabetes education, glucose testing devices, diabetes footwear and laboratory services will be on hand. Call 434-0202.
