Jazz show set for Sunday
The Nevada Jazz Orchestra will perform a concert of "straight ahead" jazz at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.
Tickets are $15; $10 for seniors and students; $7 for Jazz Society and Guitar Society members. They are available in advance at the center.
Symphony to play children's concert
The Nevada Chamber Symphony will present its annual children's concert, "For the Love of Music," 3 p.m. Sunday in the theater of the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.
The special musical program, prepared and developed by Rodolfo Fernandez, founder and conductor of the Nevada Chamber Symphony, offers an entertaining selection of classical and popular works which showcase the different instruments and sections of the orchestra presenting a musical spectrum of sound, rhythm and melody to entrance young audiences. Reservations are suggested. Call 433-9280.
Response training program offered
UNLV's Institute for Security Studies will offer Emergency Response Training 6-9:30 p.m. Thursday and Feb. 17, Feb. 24 and March 3 at UNLV's ISS, 4045 S. Spencer St., Suite A-41. One additional session will be 8:30-noon Saturday at the City of Las Vegas Fire Training Center, 633 N. Mojave Road.
The six-session CERT training program is part of the Homeland Security Lecture Series, with the goal of training citizens and members of neighborhood, community, or workplace organizaThe program is designed to cover such topics as: Terrorism and disaster preparedness; Fire safety; Disaster medical operations; Light search and rescue; Disaster psychology. Babysitting class scheduled
A Babysitting Certification class for ages 12-18 will be 5-7 p.m. today and Thursday at Brinley Community School, 6150 Smoke Ranch Road, 646-9046 and Molasky Community School, 7801 W. Gilmore St., 229-5345.
Attendees will learn the basics of child development, infant care, behavior, CPR/first-aid, abuse/neglect and business skills. You must attend both days, completing the full four-hour program to receive a certificate.
