Etta Mae Bell

Etta Mae Bell, 60, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 7, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas. A resident for 22 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; one son, Kelvin Wheaton, and one daughter, Cheryl Wheaton, both of Las Vegas; one brother, McKinley Harris of Fort Worth; one sister, Barbara Jean Wheaton of Austin, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Burial will be noon Thursday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Chery L. Hobbins

Chery L. Hobbins, 57, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 20, 1948, in Detroit. A resident for 26 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Paul; one son, Fred of Las Vegas; three sisters, Ann Beers and Phyllis Corbett, both of Michigan, and Kay Nowak of Florida; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.

The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 1325 E. Harmon Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89119, or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Southern Nevada, 1919 S. Jones Blvd., Suite G, Las Vegas, NV 89146.

William A. Jackson

William A. Jackson, 73, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born July 28, 1931, in Harrisburg, Pa. A resident for three years, he was a retired bakery salesman and driver and a Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary DeSilva of San Lorenzo, Calif., and Jo Anne Crews of Merced, Calif.; one son, William Jackson of Lincoln, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Alexis Marie Loretero

Alexis Marie Loretero, 2 months old, died Friday in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 3, 2004, in Las Vegas.

She is survived by her father, Harold C. Loretero, and her mother, Shana Painter, both of Las Vegas; two sisters, Kalani Loretero of California and Kayla Loretero of Las Vegas; and two brothers, Matthew Loretero of California and Cameron Knobla of Las Vegas.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. until a 3 p.m. graveside service Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Louis 'Coach Lou' Melzer

Louis "Coach Lou" Melzer, 85, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local care center. He was born Dec. 16, 1919, in Los Angeles. A resident for 14 years, he was a retired machinery salesman and a World War II Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by one daughter, Suzanne Wilson of Las Vegas; one son, Mike Watorski of San Diego; two brothers, Douglas Melzer of Redlands, Calif., and Philips Melzer of New Zealand; and two grandchildren.

Services will be in Hollywood Hills, Calif. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

Hope Morrison

Hope Morrison, 62, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born March 28, 1942, Tulare, Calif. A resident for 10 years, she was a keno writer.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; one son, James Conklin of Las Vegas; three daughters, Natalie Horton of Cumberland City, Tenn., Lorrie Brittingham of Mount Charleston and Traci Morrison of Reno; seven brothers, Jeff Merjil of California City, Calif., Daniel Merjil of Chandler, Ariz., George Merjil of Pacifica, Calif., Robert Merjil of Truckee, Calif., Manuel Merjil of Lebec, Calif., Johnny Merjil of Salinas, Calif., and Chris Merjil of Lake Shasta, Calif.; one sister, Lizabeth Custer of Clovis, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Geraldine G. Nelson

Geraldine G. Nelson, 79, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. A homemaker, she was born Dec. 18, 1925, in Carpinteria, Calif.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Manual Bennett, Tony Carrillo, Richard Carrillo and Lawrence Carrillo.

She is survived by her husband, Duane; three daughters, Beverly Alvarado, Barbara Mendeas and Gerrilynn Gallardo; one son, Abel Gallardo; three stepsons, Randy Nelson, Kenneth Nelson and Jeff Misener; one stepdaughter, Alice Murillo; one sister, Francis Villa; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be in Carpinteria. McDermott-Crockett Mortuary, 1903 State St., Santa Barbara, CA. 93101, is handling arrangements.

Laura Juliette Powell

Laura Juliette Powell, 86, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. She was born April 9, 1918, in Alabama. A resident for 10 years, she was retired licensed vocational nurse.

She is survived by one son Raymond Powell; one daughter, Dana Smith; one sister, Louise Kuehnel; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Randall T. Robbins

Randall T. Robbins, 54, of Henderson died Saturday in Henderson. He was born March 7, 1950, in Massachusetts. A resident for three years, he was a retired truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline; four daughters, Lisa Trask and Vicki McComb, both of Warner Robins, Ga., Cara Townsend of Wynnewood, Okla., and Tara Griffiths of Hammond, N.Y.; one son, Randy Robbins of Tilton, N.H.; and 15 grandchildren.

Louise 'Tubie' Skurow

Louise "Tubie" Skurow, 81, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 28, 1924, in Cincinnati. A resident for 42 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Skurow of Las Vegas and Ronnie Skurow of Mesquite; one brother, Morris Schneider of Las Vegas; one sister, Butzy Cohen of Cincinnati; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be noon Tuesday in King David Memorial Chapel and Cemetery, 2697 Eldorado Lane, Las Vegas, NV 89123. Burial to follow in Palm Valley View Cemetery.

Carmela T. Suarez

Carmela T. Suarez, 83, of Boulder City died Saturday in a local care center. She was born Feb. 13, 1921, in New York City. A resident for 37 years, she was a retired seamstress.

She is survived by three sons, Rudi Pacheco of Henderson, Richard Pacheco of Las Vegas and Michael Suarez of Boulder City; two daughters, Mercedes Houghton of Las Vegas and the Rev. JoAnn Braithwait of Vincennes, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1399 San Felipe Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Henderson.

William Lloyd Verweyst

William Lloyd Verweyst, 68, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 18, 1936, in Missouri. A resident for 19 years, he was an electrical engineer and an Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sons, Steven and Michael; two daughters, Michelle and Kimberly; one brother, James; one sister, Patricia; and seven grandchildren.

Howard C. Vivian

Howard C. Vivian, 79, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospice. He was born Oct. 20, 1925, in Oakland, Calif. A resident for five years, he was a retired jet propulsion engineer and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Jamalea; two daughters, Linda McDonald and Susan Vivian, both of Arizona; one son, Douglas Vivian of Las Vegas; one brother, Robert Vivian of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

Joan S. Zucker

Joan S. Zucker, 71, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 19, 1933, in Seward, Neb. A resident for 25 years, she was a retired television accountant.

She is survived by her husband, Walter C.; one stepdaughter, Vicki Phillips of Corona, Calif.; one stepson, Richard R. Zucker of Highland, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.
