Letter: Focus should be on Americans

Monday, Feb. 7, 2005 | 8:58 a.m.

Am I the only one who is tired of hearing the phrase "Iraqi people"? What about the American people? President Bush is spending billions of dollars on the Iraqi people while the American people cannot even get a cost-of-living increase in their wages to pay for the increasing cost of utilities and other necessities. Why are we forced to pay for other people when we cannot even support our own people, i.e., the homeless, American citizens without insurance and people with debilitating diseases who cannot afford their medication.

President Bush needs to think about the people who have contributed to this government all of their lives. What kind of life will the citizens of America have if we cannot even support our families and have decent health coverage and Social Security.

Maybe we should all move to Iraq.
