FTC seeks further information on sale of Caesars Tahoe

Monday, Feb. 7, 2005 | 9:20 a.m.

The Federal Trade Commission has asked for more information in connection with the planned sale of Caesars Entertainment Inc.'s Caesars Tahoe casino to an affiliate of private hotel chain Columbia Sussex Corp.

In a statement Friday, Caesars said the companies intend to "respond promptly" to the information request. The second request for information extends the waiting period imposed by federal antitrust law by another 30 days after the companies have complied with the request.

With the purchase, Columbia Sussex would own two casinos in Lake Tahoe including the Horizon Casino and become one of only two major casino operators in the resort town with Harrah's Entertainment Inc., which owns three properties in Lake Tahoe.

The Federal Trade Commission is separately reviewing a $9.4 billion buyout of Caesars Entertainment by Harrah's, a deal that is expected to close by the end of June.
