New York blocks simulcasts to track

BELMONT, N.H. -- Racing regulators in New York have barred that state's racetracks from sending simulcast signals of their races to Lakes Region Greyhound Park.

The New York State Racing and Wagering Board has banned the tracks from transmitting their races to 10 locations, including the New Hampshire track. The ruling affects races from four thoroughbred tracks and seven harness tracks.

The decision was prompted by the federal indictment of 17 people, including two Lakes Region officials, for alleged money laundering and illegal gambling.

In a Jan. 27 letter to New York track officials, the board wrote: "To maintain the integrity of all New York State thoroughbred and harness racing and pari-mutuel wagering, the Racing and Wagering Board is withdrawing approval for any contracts between New York simulcast licensees and any of the 10 sites listed below."
