Candidates file for seats across valley
Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005 | 9:45 a.m.
Two candidates filed for seats on the Boulder City Council, and one for a spot on the North Las Vegas Municipal Court bench on Monday, as the crowded race for the Ward 6 seat on the Las Vegas City Council grew by one.
Gary L. Ratliff filed to run in the race to fill the Ward 6 seat on the Las Vegas City Council. The other candidates are Anthony M. "Tony" Salas, Robert D. Glover, Steve Ross, city Planning Commissioner Byron Goynes, Debbie Kitterman Burgos, Jeff Crisman and Steve Sanson.
The Ward 6 seat is currently held by Councilman Michael Mack, who has said he will not seek re-election so he can spend more time with his children.
In Boulder City, Jeremy F. Lilly and Philip A. de Langis filed to run for seats on the City Council currently held by Michael Pacini and Andrea Anderson, who have already filed to run for re-election. In Boulder City, unlike in the other cities, all the council candidates will vie for the two spots, with the top two vote-getters winning election.
In North Las Vegas, Christopher Larotonda filed to run for the newly created Dept. 2 in Municipal Court. He will face at least Willia Chaney.
Candidates in Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas have until Friday to file to run. In Boulder City the deadline is Thursday.
At stake are some seats on the city councils, Municipal Court benches and the mayors' offices in North Las Vegas and Henderson. The cities' primary elections will be on April 5, with early voting from March 19 to April 1. The general elections will be June 7, with early voting from May 21 to June 3.
In all the cities, if a candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote in a primary election they are declared the winner. In Boulder City there will not be a primary unless more than four candidates file to run for City Council.
