As of this month, the state prison system held about 11,500 inmates. Below is the number of prisoners in each security level and the estimated cost of housing an inmate at that level for a year.
Maximum security: 2,003 $20,075
Medium security: 6,182 $12,775
Minimum security: 1,500 $11,680
Conservation camp: 1,700 $6,200
