Letter: With faith, proof isn’t necessary

Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 | 9:01 a.m.

Many readers and columnists have written about the controversy of evolution vs. intelligent design lately. I have a couple of questions for evolutionists trying to make scientific points. I'm sure that they consider the evolution theory a science and, as such, must be based on provable facts. The first question is: Is it a science, or is it just a theory? Next: If we evolved from "monkeys," why are there still monkeys? Are we just an aberration of superior monkey genes?

I am obviously a proponent of the intelligent design theory. I have heard both sides and have decided, along with an overwhelming majority of humans, to believe what has been handed down through all the ages from the beginning of man by word-of-mouth and by their writings. These truths were recorded by intelligent beings, as opposed to animals.

The most important of these truths has been that this belief is stronger than a science. There is not and will be no "scientific proof" until we are no longer of this earth. We are simply instructed in every writing, and in every message passed down through the ages by word-of-mouth, to have faith, and our faith will be rewarded by proof in the afterlife.

I decided to join the majority after hearing both sides because I deducted that if I need proof, then I do not have faith. And, if I have faith, then I do not need proof.

Finally, if society chooses to use my tax money to support schools that teach science classes to our children, please use it to teach faith classes as well, because the overwhelming majority of humans have faith.
