Letter: We can’t deny our dependence on energy

Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 | 8:59 a.m.

Regarding Joseph Carbone's Dec. 24 letter, "New fuel for our presence in Afghanistan":

The U.S. government (not just the current administration) may be joined at the hip with energy interests, and that is because the world sorely needs these energy sources.

However, what is wrong with Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries benefiting from oil and other natural resources that allow them to build their own hospitals, schools and offer better lives for their citizens?

Kuwait did just that and as a result also employs many people from other countries.

Congress just voted down access to our own oil pools in Alaska. If we no longer have oil or gas, all of us will be walking, the airlines and trucks halted, our industries silenced.
