Because of an error by the Sun, a story in Tuesdays edition incorrectly reported that Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., had not returned campaign contributions from David Safavian, a former Bush administration of.cial who was arrested in September as part of a corruption investigation. Ensign had said he would not return the donations dating from 1997 to 2000 because the money was spent. Ensign campaign adviser Mike Slanker said the senator decided later to donate $4,648.50 the amount Safavian and his wife, Jennifer, gave to the Nevada Patriot Fund. The fund benefits the families of Nevada military members who die or suffer permanent injuries in their service. The Sun regrets the error.
