Letter: Why the attack on freedom of religion?
Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005 | 9:02 a.m.
Our country was founded on the principle of everyone having an equal voice on various issues, including religion. I was raised with the opportunity to have an education in both academics and religion. I have come to appreciate the search for true happiness and freedom and am grateful to live in a country where this is possible.
As events have unfolded in my life, I have learned the actual reason for being placed on Earth. It wasn't just some scientific happenstance or evolution, although science does save lives every day and affects the physical world.
Organizations providing education, goods or services shouldn't be limited by political correctness. Why waste time, money and energy trying to erase one of our most precious rights, freedom of religion? Preventing children from wearing red and green to school, or not displaying window decorations with the word "Christmas" is a sign of a downward spiral.
We are connected in more ways than just a handshake. God is always willing to wrap us in his arms and forgive our transgressions unconditionally. We must accept him into our lives, strive to do better and follow his teachings, knowing that he takes away our insecurities, replacing them with promise of eternal happiness.
If we slip, he sends us a sign, whether a feather falling from the sky or something lost then all of a sudden found. True riches don't come without diligence. We just have to be aware and "listen."
God bless us all and Merry Christmas.
