Letter: Nunnely was a coach to respect
Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005 | 7:46 a.m.
Thanks to Ron Kantowski for his Dec. 10 column expressing respect for Coach Wayne Nunnely. I came to UNLV's faculty in 1972, so I have seen many coaches. Only a few, and only one football coach, undertook to work with those of us teaching general education classes that were required. And that was Coach Nunnely.
I remember when Ickey Woods was in my Philosophy 102 class, Reasoning and Critical Thinking, along with several other football players. Sometimes students would move their gazes from the front to the door. I would look, too, and see coach's face looking in!
He was going from class to class, checking to see if his guys were coming to class. And when our tutorial programs were set up, to help all students who needed help, he was one of the coaches who cooperated. I won't name the ones who did not.
He was a man to respect.
