Flashpoint for Dec. 17, 2005

Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005 | 8:15 a.m.

The gaming industry supposedly is neutral on Bob Beers' Tax and Spending Control Initiative. But the casinos sure aren't behaving like Switzerland. At a forum Thursday, sponsored by the gaming-dominated Nevada Tourism Association, a few questions lobbed Beers' way were not very neutral. Station Casinos' government affairs boss, Lesley Pittman, challenged Beers on an analogy to Colorado's experience. Nevada Resort Association boss Bill Bible wondered if special improvement districts would cause special elections. And Terina Salerno from American Wagering had a republic vs. democracy debate with Beers. With neutrality like this, TASC needs no enemies.
