Editorial: More lunatic than leader
In a speech Wednesday before thousands of supporters in southeast Iran, which was broadcast live on state television, Ahmadinejad said, "If you say and insist it's true that you killed 6 million Jews in crematoria during World War II, then why should the Palestinians pay for that?" He went on to say that European countries, the United States or Canada should provide land for a Jewish state.
A lesson learned
Brightly colored wrapping paper covered the floor, and a giant Santa Claus gift bag stood in a corner Tuesday evening as children attending Midbar Kodesh Temple's religious school cheerfully wrapped Christmas presents.
Marine's father: Get out of Iraq
WASHINGTON -- The Democratic grass-roots operation Moveon.org collected 400,000 signatures on petitions urging their lawmakers to back a timeline for pulling troops out of Iraq by 2006.
Editorial: War's indignities come home
In a report on CNN Tuesday, the Holleys told of how they were aghast to learn that the body of their only child, a U.S. Army specialist who was a combat medic with the 101st Airborne, would be sent home to Southern California as freight on a commercial airliner.

KNIGHT TO REMEMBER
Letter: Drug profits come with consequences
The only problem is that price controls have all but destroyed the pharmaceutical industries in those countries. The only major market where drug makers can invest the gargantuan sums necessary to invent new cures and treatments, with the expectation that they may someday recoup those investments, is the United States. Our consumers now subsidize drug research and development for the rest of the world.
Editorial: Making for better students
Schools and groups supporting extracurricular activities often sell candy or soft drinks to raise money. While we understand that this could make it more difficult for these groups to support their efforts, we don't believe it's the school's place to be selling junk food to children.
No home sweet home
School teacher Amber Bielak is still learning about Las Vegas -- and the lesson isn't pleasant. Despite the collective efforts of the School District, mortgage lenders and real estate companies, many teachers can't afford homes.

Letter: Time for serious dialogue on water
Rothman, a history professor at UNLV, often frames his water usage arguments on cost-benefit analyses that typically side with urban growth. From a strict economic perspective his evidence is irrefutable. But my concern is with the nonquantifiables; those resources that do not lend themselves to such an approach.
Columnist Ron Kantowski: On two potential bicycling superstars who are hampered by the lack of money for their training
Many years ago I received a call from a press flak who wanted me to interview Greg LeMond, the three-time Tour de France champion.
Bright future expected for solar project
A project that would be the largest solar power plant built anywhere in the world in the last 15 years is set to get under way next month in Boulder City.
Flashpoint for Dec. 17, 2005
The gaming industry supposedly is neutral on Bob Beers' Tax and Spending Control Initiative. But the casinos sure aren't behaving like Switzerland. At a forum Thursday, sponsored by the gaming-dominated Nevada Tourism Association, a few questions lobbed Beers' way were not very neutral. Station Casinos' government affairs boss, Lesley Pittman, challenged Beers on an analogy to Colorado's experience. Nevada Resort Association boss Bill Bible wondered if special improvement districts would cause special elections. And Terina Salerno from American Wagering had a republic vs. democracy debate with Beers. With neutrality like this, TASC needs no enemies.
Soccer's 'Group of Death'
Whether the United States is in "The Group of Death," the toughest of the eight four-team World Cup group draws, and why it wasn't recognized as one of the eight top seeds are moot issues.
Letter: Democrats must put brakes on GOP plans
Bush's speaking tour may help resolidify his base and raise his approval rating, but that alone is not going to get it. There seems to be little caring for anyone who does not own a home with a swimming pool and a four-car garage with a Bentley, Jaguar and a Rolls-Royce. That leaves a jungle out there, fighting for mere survival, Christ's proclaimed, "least of my brethren."
