Three dead in northern Nevada accidents

Friday, Dec. 16, 2005 | 10:21 a.m.

Three people are dead following a pair of accidents in the Carson City area.

A head-on collision left both drivers dead early Friday on U.S. 50 near Mound House, just east of Carson City.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers.

The victims were identified as Michael Cantanessa, 29, of Mound House and Richard Jones, 36, of Carson City. Neither driver is believed to have been wearing a seat belt.

The crash and its investigation blocked the highway for about three hours. Both directions of traffic were diverted onto the highway shoulders.

In Carson City, one man died Thursday night when his car drifted off Goni Road and struck a cement culvert.

David Chase, 35, of Carson City was driving north when his 1997 Mercedes drifted off the road and struck the culvert and rolled over, ejecting him from the car.

The Highway Patrol says the victim did not appear to be wearing his seat belt. Investigators have not yet determined if alcohol was involved.
