Letter: We can demand more from our politicians

Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005 | 9:10 a.m.

There are some people who could do a good job in political activism if they did not allow politicians and bureaucrats to discourage and wear them down. Remember, "they" will never give you credit, so at times you will have to use the scatter gun effect -- hit them where they ain't. Don't let them defeat you -- keep up the good work.

The reason I wrote this letter is because a friend told me that the vast majority of Las Vegans, including those who are religious, don't care about the homeless. He said also that the vast majority of veterans don't care about homeless veterans.

Please, tell me it isn't so, because I know political activism is good citizenship. The most important thing to remember is that politicians and bureaucrats are our employees. We have the right and duty to petition them. But, we also must demand that they answer us. Congress must take care of all Americans before it borrows money to spend on foreigners.

Charity begins at home.
