Columnist Jon Ralston: On items that are sorely missing from the city’s centennial time capsule

So this week the centennial will conclude a yearlong celebration that has seemed to go on for a hundred years with the dedication of a time capsule filled with meaningful mementos.

A vintage cocktail waitress uniform, an ersatz "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign, a passel of trinkets from Strip productions.

Sounds slightly tacky, but perhaps appropriate. I also understand Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman was going to bury a key to the city in the capsule, too. But after giving out so many, there were none left.

What's missing, though, are remembrances of things past from major political figures, emblems of their legacies, their contributions to the centennial panorama.

Not to mention a few other documents that simply must be included.

The capsule might need to be expanded, but here are some essentials:
