Letter: Start budget cuts with Congress’ salary

Several weeks ago Congress gave or voted themselves a $3,100 pay raise. It seems there was no objection from any quarter. Meanwhile, the Bush administration is searching high and low for ways to cut the budget.

About six months ago, I heard a voice in the wilderness suggesting it was time for an increase in the minimum wage, but it faded away quickly.

I think congressional pay raises should be tied to increases in the minimum wage. This way Congress will think often and fondly of those on the lower rungs of our society ... the ones whose interests they are supposed to serve.
